

Accomplishments
In December 2015, Haidar Awad was sworn in as a member of the Hawthorne City Council by California State Treasurer John Chiang. Two years later, Councilmember Awad was elected Mayor Pro Tem for the City of Hawthorne. As a relentless advocate for his community, Haidar Awad has made significant strides in bringing economic stability to the area, with an added emphasis on the safety and well-being of his constituents.
Councilmember Awad’s extensive business and financial experience make him uniquely qualified to lead the City of Hawthorne into the future by continuing to implement innovative initiatives. Not only did Haidar Awad help the City of Hawthorne through the financial crisis of 2015, but he has spearheaded efforts to combat homelessness, bolster financial oversight, and fund economic development and infrastructure.
In his acceptance speech, he declared, ”a new beginning for Hawthorne” and noted, “This election was about a break from the past, a break from the status quo and a mandate for a new direction that will bring hope back — and bring trust back to City Hall.”
