ADVOCATING FOR HAWTHORNE
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT & INFRASTRUCTURE EXPANSION
DEDICATEd TO THE CONTINUED GROWTH & PROSPERITY OF HAWTHORNE
Councilmember Awad supported the City of Inglewood in passing a resolution to construct a new NFL stadium one mile from Hawthorne. Construction began in January 2016. The project spanned 290 acres and was designed to bring back the Los Angeles Rams, while creating about 12,000 jobs. In 2017, at a press conference attended by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, San Diego Chargers owner Dean Spanos announced the team would be sharing the new stadium.
Economic development and infrastructure have been high on Haidar’s list of priorities as well. Welcoming new businesses and industries to the area brings value to the City of Hawthorne, and improves the lives of its residents. A measure was passed with 73% of the vote that approved funding to make improvements to the transportation system over the next 22 years.
Thanks to the hard work of Haidar and his fellow councilmembers, the City of Hawthorne is home to Elon Musk’s SpaceX, Tesla, and in 2017, the company announced its construction of a one-mile-long, high-speed Hyperloop transportation system. These are just a few examples of the impressive growth that has taken place in recent years. Residents of the city stand to benefit from the continued growth of their city under Haidar Awad’s leadership and advocacy.
