SUPPORTING OUR SENIOR COMMUNITIES
Creating Resources & Programs for Hawthorne Seniors
In addition to new, affordable housing for veterans, Councilmember Haidar Awad, Candidate for Mayor has been a longstanding advocate for the well-being of Hawthorne seniors. To help recognize the needs of the city’s elderly population, The Senior Citizen Resource Fair was held every October and is hosted by the City of Hawthorne in the Polaris Room at Memorial Park. The event provides resources and information to seniors and offers more access to additional support provided by the city.
Haidar Awad believes his community should prop-up seniors and support them in any way possible. The continued push for a safer and more vibrant community enables the City of Hawthorne to collectively come together to take care of the elderly community.
Councilmember Awad continues his hard work on the Senior Citizens’ Commission and oversees its inner-workings. The commission acts as an advisory body of the city council in all matters pertaining to the needs, concerns, and quality of life of all seniors in the City of Hawthorne. This includes analyzing and evaluating the specific needs of seniors and coordinates all available resources for seniors from public agencies, non-profits, and volunteer organizations. Haidar will continue to provide input on new programs, activities, and events for the senior community of Hawthorne.
