VETERAN FAMILY HOUSING PROJECT
Addressing the Homelessness Crisis in Hawthorne
In the Fall/Winter 2017 issue of Haidar Hawthorne News, the homelessness crisis in Hawthorne was addressed. The story followed the daily activities of Sergeant Grajeda of the Hawthorne Police Department, who noted that residents were often relying on the police to handle homeless-related matters. Grajeda also noted the priority of assisting homeless veterans and advocated for an initiative to address mental health on the streets.
Haidar announced a veteran family housing project to aid the homelessness problem, in cooperationg with Century Housing Corporation, a nonprofit that creates veteran housing across California. The property sits on a one-acre lot and will include 18 units along with offering services to help residents with education, employment, and health matters.
