Now in its 6th year, the annual Turkey Giveaway at Hawthorne Auto Square is helping more families than ever.
“The holidays are a time to reflect on being thankful for what we have and to lend a hand to those in need,” said Councilmember Haidar Awad.
The Awad Family Foundation in partnership with the Hawthorne Chamber of Commerce gave away over 350 turkeys with bags of groceries for a complete Thanksgiving meal.
“I’m so excited to have Urth Caffe and Mychal’s Learning Place join us this year,” added Councilmember Awad, “they are two great local organizations and we are so privileged to have their help.”
Urth Caffe just recently opened their new headquarters in Hawthorne and sent pumpkin pies to complete the Thanksgiving meal for every family.
“Urth’s pumpkin pies are rather famous,” said Councilman Awad, “it was an incredibly generous donation.”
Adult students from Mychal’s Learning Place all came with elf hats to help give away turkeys, pies and groceries.
“Mychal’s Learning Place is a gem in Hawthorne. They do great work with children and adults with developmental disabilities, helping them build self-esteem and independence,” said Councilmember Awad, “they really are ‘good neighbors’ of Hawthorne.”
