FINANCIAL OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE
DEMANDING FULL TRANSPARENCY FROM CITY LEGISLATORS
Haidar Awad ran and won his bid for city council by showcasing his extensive business and financial experience. Councilmember Awad immediately took on Hawthorne’s financial crisis in the summer of 2015. As chair of the Financial Oversight Committee, he has balanced the city budget, instilled responsible spending, and increased the city’s bank account by four-fold.
A commitment to financial transparency has been a hallmark of Haidar Awad’s leadership. The idea that transparency can prevent the corruption of the past to protect taxpayers in the present, is central to Haidar’s campaign.
Numerous public works projects have been completed under his watch, including the $7.3 million El Segundo Blvd. Mobility Improvement Project. This project required road widening, storm drain improvements, a new traffic signal, and ADA ramps. Improvements to Hawthorne Blvd. have also been made along with mobility improvements to Prairie Avenue. A sanitary sewer construction and rehabilitation project was completed in March 2019 as well.
